The building comprises a state-of-the-art library for the City of Bunbury on the upper level, with non-government tenancy space on the lower level. It integrates the latest library equipment and technology and incorporates a data centre for tenants seeking the most advanced IT infrastructure available within WA.
Here, all community members can access a multitude of library functions in one unified building. Each space is defined by its function. The Children’s Library is colourful and visually vibrant, in contrast to the reading areas, which take advantage of the peaceful northern aspect overlooking the park.
The design makes the most of the 10-metre elevation change to form a grand colonnade, which emphasises the building entrances and makes the public circulation system more intuitive. The colonnade acts as a universally accessible public circulation spine linking the various levels of the development. Large overhanging eaves provide shade protection whilst maximising natural daylight penetration to make the building climatically responsive.
